Firefly chosen as top innovative solution for enhancing parental engagement

We are delighted that Firefly has been selected by the Department for Education and Nesta as one of the 15 most promising EdTech solutions for enhancing parental engagement. Inline with the government's EdTech strategy, we’ve been awarded the maximum grant towards further research and development of a new cost-effective offering for UK state schools: Firefly Essentials.

Firefly Essentials is a new product that takes all the power of Firefly’s modern learning experience platform and combines it with an affordable price to best meet the needs of secondary state schools. It is designed to:

  • Engage the whole school community and provide continuous reporting for parents.
  • Go beyond homework setting and keep enrolment healthy by empowering students to shape their own learning journey.
  • Help schools overcome the increased pressure of changing budgets and the challenges of the new Ofsted framework.
  • Simplify each school’s ecosystem, removing the need for a costly array of disparate tools that don't work well together.

The government’s EdTech strategy aims to focus on tackling existing challenges in education such as teacher workload, flexible working and assessment as well as ongoing shortages of teachers. They see technology playing a vital role in alleviating some of these pressures.

Hannah Owen, Nesta EdTech Team said:

“We’re excited to have selected Firefly as one of the promising solutions supporting schools to improve the way they engage parents and reduce teacher workload in our EdTech Innovation Fund.

When selecting our grantees, we were interested in tools that have the potential to have the most impact on teachers and students and are committed to developing their evidence base for what works”

Simon Hay, Co-founder:

We are looking forward to using this funding for building a new unique learner profile which aims to further improve parental engagement for schools and to develop a more systematic research programme to establish the benefits of the platform and future developments.
